Be Our Guest – Winner’s Review

The Toast House

Discover Ilkley, funded by Ilkley BID, is giving people the opportunity to enjoy some complimentary shopping or eating out.  To take part, they need to complete a simple form telling us a bit more about themselves, their family, their favourite Ilkley businesses and places they’ve seen but never tried out.

Each month, one lucky applicant is chosen to visit one of the places they have listed and treat themselves with a £30 – £50 voucher.

Winner, Suzie Williams from Ben Rhydding, spent her £30 voucher at The Toast House in Ilkley.

Why did you choose Toast?
I’d never been before, although I’d walked past it a few times. I’d always thought it looked nice, and it’s obviously very popular as it always seems busy, so I thought I’d give it a try.

When did you go?
My mum and I went on Saturday 13th June at about 1pm. It was busy and we sat near the front.

What were your first impressions?
It’s a very friendly and relaxed place with a lovely atmosphere.

What did you order?
We had afternoon tea for two. My mum had the chocolate and Guinness cake, which she really enjoyed. I had a taste as well and it was delicious. I chose the lemon cake, and we also tried their homemade fruit scones, which were lovely.

When we went in, we noticed they had some bread on display with bags available so customers could help themselves. We bought a sourdough loaf to take home, and my mum said it was one of the best sourdough breads she’s ever had. I’ll definitely need to go back for some more and find out where they get it from.
We both had tea to drink, but we also noticed they serve really nice coffee from a local coffee company, which is available to buy and take home as well.

How was the service?
Really good. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the service was very efficient.

Is it value for money?
Yes, definitely. We used the full voucher and spent a little extra, and we had plenty to eat.

Would you go back?
Yes, the food is really good and I’d particularly like to try their breakfast there.

Editor’s Note
Discover Ilkley checked with Toast about their bread and coffee.

Their bread is supplied by Leeds Bread Co-op and is delivered every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. The bread is used in the café and loaves are also available for customers to buy and take home.

Their coffee comes from North Star, a Leeds-based roastery. Toast has worked closely with North Star to create its own bespoke coffee, the Toast House Blend.

The staff told us they regularly receive positive feedback about how good the coffee is. The Toast House Blend is available to buy in the shop as both whole beans and ground coffee.
