Ilkley Moor: Part of the Bradford Pennine Gateway National Nature Reserve

Ilkley Moor is now officially recognised as a core part of the Bradford Pennine Gateway, a prestigious National Nature Reserve (NNR). As part of the King’s Series of NNRs established in honour of His Majesty’s Coronation, this status ensures our landscape is managed and protected for its national importance.

A National Treasure on our Doorstep

For walkers, this means the trails you love are now part of a significant nature recovery network. The reserve spans 1,274 hectares, linking Ilkley Moor to seven other ecologically connected sites, including Baildon Moor, Shipley Glen, and Penistone Country Park.

Rare Habitats: 90% of the area comprises UK priority habitats, including peat bogs, heathlands, and wetlands.

Biodiversity: Keep an eye out for Curlew, Golden Plover, Short-eared Owls, and Adders—over 70 protected species have been recorded here.

Legacy: This NNR status protects the land in perpetuity, ensuring it remains a place where wildlife thrives alongside public enjoyment and field research.
