Winner, Sarah Hellewell from Ilkley, chose to spend her £50 at Seddon & Davison on The Grove Promenade.
Why did you choose to spend your £50 at Seddon & Davison?
I’ve walked past it a lot and have always admired their window displays but I’ve never actually been inside. As it’s approaching Christmas, I decided I wanted to go in to see what they have in-store.
What was your first impression inside?
It’s beautiful, very well laid out. Lots of things immediately caught my eye and there’s lots to look at in all directions.
I really liked the photographs of highland stags which they’ve got displayed on the wall behind the till. The owner of the shop took them as he’s a photographer and because I’m from Scotland, I appreciated them. They’ve got the photos printed onto a range of cushions they sell as well – they’re really striking and very unique and you know that you’re not going to find them anywhere else.
They’ve got a range of sheep cushions as well to appeal to Yorkshire folk.
They have so many beautiful well-made things that it was hard to choose. There were so many items that would look lovely in my home as well as making great Christmas presents for family and friends. And you can tell that the quality of all their items is top notch.
What did you buy?
I bought an artificial flower arrangement which is gorgeous. The flowers look so realistic and the colours match my living room perfectly. They came hand-tied in paper with a ribbon and they look like a bouquet of fresh flowers.
I checked with the store and the flowers in my arrangement are: Eucalyptus Aubergine Spray, Fig and Olive Hydrangea, Pussy Willow Branch Stem, Beige Dahlia Spray and Green Viburnum Stem.
I was torn between one of their woollen blankets and a cushion, but in the end the highland stag won so I also chose a stag cushion in a purple, deep burgundy colour which looks great at home and perfectly complements my new flower arrangement.
How was the service?
They were so lovely – friendly and helpful. I told the owner about my colour scheme at home and that I particularly like rich, deep colours; burgundy red and greens. She listened and together we tried different combinations of flowers that worked well together not only in terms of colour but also in shape, texture and size so that I ended up with the perfect bouquet. You can take in your own vase if you want and they can help you find the right arrangement for you.
She also gave me a really helpful suggestion to put pebbles in the bottom of the vase both from an aesthetic point of view but also because it helps to vary the length of the stems for the optimal arrangement.
Would you go back?
Yes, definitely! I’ve joined their loyalty scheme so will be going back.
Would you recommend to friends and family?
Yes absolutely. It’s a great shop with beautiful high quality items that are incredibly good value for money, plus friendly, welcoming staff.
