Be Our Guest – Winner’s Review

Ashiana

Discover Ilkley, funded by Ilkley BID, is giving people the opportunity to enjoy some complimentary shopping or eating out.  To take part, they need to complete a simple form telling us a bit more about themselves, their family, their favourite Ilkley businesses and places they’ve seen but never tried out.

Each month, one lucky applicant is chosen to visit one of the places they have listed and treat themselves with a £30 – £50 voucher.

Winner, Emily Devane, chose to spend her £50 at Ashiana Takeaway Ilkley.

When did you go?
We went on Friday 31st July,

Who did you go with?
It was myself, my husband and my son.

What were your first impressions?
I’ve eaten there once before, a while back, but someone else ordered it and collected it. This time, though, we ordered and collected it ourselves. We hardly ever get takeaways, so this was a real treat.

The area where you collect your order from is really bright and welcoming, and there were several people there picking up their orders too, so it’s clearly a popular place to go.

How was the service?
Excellent! The chap on reception (sorry, I didn’t get his name) was incredibly helpful and really warm and friendly. And it definitely wasn’t just because we had the voucher. He was exactly the same with everyone, and it’s very clear that good service is a huge part of what they offer.

When we rang to order the food, the guy we spoke to was really friendly too. He explained that everything is cooked fresh to order, so it wasn’t something that could just be whipped up in five minutes. We phoned ahead and asked for it to be ready by 7pm, then wandered into Ilkley for a drink beforehand, which was really nice. When we walked into Ashiana, our food was ready for us bang on 7pm, so the whole process was really smooth.

What did you order?
We had the King Prawn Pepper Fry, which was made with lime and turmeric and fresh butterfly king prawns, as well as the Achari Chicken dish. We had a side of Bindi Bhaji which is made with fresh okra and nan and rice.

How was the food?
Really delicious. You can tell that everything is cooked from scratch, and the naan bread was excellent! It didn’t disappoint in terms of flavour or quality and we all really enjoyed it. It was very special.

I used to live in London and we ate a lot of really good Indian food there, and this was definitely up there with some of the best restaurants we went to!

Was it value for money?
Yes. It is on the pricier side, but the quality is so good, and to be honest, I’d rather have one decent quality meal than 2 mediocre ones!

Would you go back?
Yes, I’d go back for a treat or special occasion. It was a very special experience with delicious food and excellent service. Thank you very much for the voucher and the opportunity.
